Red, White & Blue Daiquiri Cocktails

Let’s create a big bang with Red, White & Blue Daiquiri Cocktails for the 4th of July!

These festive cocktails always hit the top of my blog post trends this time of year so I’m posting a slightly revised post for new readers.  The daiquiris are festive, refreshing, absolutely delicious and always make a big impact on guests!  Just perfect for backyard celebrations on the 4th of July.

Of course, you can always make them a mock-tail by leaving out the rum since the flavor base is made with frozen limeade and lemonade.

Red, White, Blue Daiquiris

Besides adding a festive touch to your party, the daiquiris can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the freezer in plastic containers (my choice) or plastic ziploc-type food storage bags.  I always do this so they are ready to go when guests arrive.  If you have the vertical space in your freezer, you could pre-layer the drinks in the glasses and greet your guests at the door with one!  How great would that be?  See more tips below.
Your guests can choose their daiquiris or layer all three colors into the glass. The individual flavors blend perfectly: “Red” (strawberry), “White” (lemon-lime), and “Blue” (tinted with a splash of blue curacao, an orange flavored liqueur but because it’s such a small amount the orange flavor is not noticable). Layering all three colors in the glass is my favorite look for the the 4th of July.

I planned ahead and froze fresh strawberries when they were at their peak locally but store-bought works just fine.

Frozen Strawberries

Tips:

  • The drinks can also be pre-poured into glasses and left in the freezer. This will save even more time during a party and frost the glass.
  • If drinks are kept in the freezer, the alcohol in the drinks will keep the mixture from freezing solid and will retain a perfect slushy texture. If your drinks are non-alcoholic, the mixture will freeze solid but will thaw quickly.
  • If you layer the red, white and blue daiquiris into one glass, spoon the second and third layers over each other instead of pouring. Pouring may mix your colors depending on how liquid the consistency is.
  • Each daiquiri flavor also makes a great icy dessert that can be spooned into a dish.

All frosty for the 4th!

Fresh Citrus Margaritas

Margaritas are my default cocktail and I like that.  They’re the sure bet when going to a new restaurant and not because I’ve had all winners.  Oh, I’ve sent back my share.  But the thing is… I know what they’re supposed to taste like and from there I can judge. Lately though, at home, I’ve been experimenting with more citrus flavors.  A half of an orange, a wedge of lemon and a lime cut up in quarters.  If there’s a… [Read More]

St. Patrick’s Day Boozy Buttercream Cupcakes and a Bailey’s Martini

St. Patrick's Day Cupcakes

It’s hard to believe we’re in the last month of the first quarter of the year.  For us in SoCal spring flowers have never stopped blooming and it’s safe to say this past weekend we had our truly first rain in a season that will soon be over. March also makes nearly everyone Irish at least for a day.  To get a start on St. Patrick’s Day planning I’m revisiting two of my favorite recipes that speak Irish to me… [Read More]

DIY Decorated Statue of Liberty Cookies/Sparkler Holders

I love the look of fireworks shooting in the sky overhead of the lady in the harbor so I designed a cookie that could hold a sparkler to double as a place setting decoration adding to the anticipation of the night.  It could also serve as a party favor if it’s not eaten first during the fireworks display! The Espresso Martini

This cocktail is absolutely delicious and very special. It’s made with Bailey’s Irish Cream, Kahlua, Frangelico and double espresso vodka.  I don’t know what it is about it but it’s hard to resist after dinner. Did I say dinner? Don’t feel you have to limit yourself. I’ve been known to split one with a friend after lunch. The thing is, we then order another one to split. I know the math. What can I say? It’s goes down like silk… [Read More]

A Holiday Cocktail ~ Carrot Cake Martinis

This cocktail evokes the warm flavors of the holiday season with a tall cool shake of cracked ice along with shredded carrots.  Hence the name, Carrot Cake Martinis and they’re absolutely delicious!  It was made for me to taste this past spring in San Luis Obispo and I’ve been waiting until the holiday season to share it with you. The three liqueurs used in this recipe are Bailey’s Irish Crème, cinnamon schnapps and butterscotch schnapps.  Can’t you hear those jingle… [Read More]

Pink Prickly Pear Margaritas

One thing that worked out well in Las Vegas was not making reservations for dinner.  Without them, seating was only available after 10 o’clock which left the other option – to sit at the bar.  Often times I prefer the bar view because it’s where the action is and the bartenders are usually very nice and generous with recipes and samples of exotic drinks left in the shakers.  In our room, before we ventured to the casino level for dinner,… [Read More]

Festive Holiday Cocktails

Entertaining for the holidays is a perfect time for signature cocktails. Here are a couple of recipes for variations on pomegranate martinis that are red in color. Red, being the key to complement a special decorative rim of flaked coconut that gives the cocktail glass the look of Santa’s hat or a snowy touch. It’s a festive look to serve up some holiday spirit with your … spirits. Things needed to make the decorative snowy coconut rim: 3 Tablespoons powdered… [Read More]
