Mason Jar Decorated Cookies With Fondant Flowers

June was such a busy month. One that included travel, a memorable birthday get-away celebration and a vineyard wedding.

When you think of an elegant country wedding what comes to mind?  For me, it’s Mason jars overflowing with wild flowers!

What turned out very nice was that the table centerpieces were Mason jars filled with flowers too.

A very personalized touch I added was to paint on a “chalkboard tag” with the bride and groom’s new monogram.  Of course, the tag and paint were completely edible being fondant and white gel decorating color.  The bride is an elementary school teacher so I thought the rustic look of the chalkboard would be especially meaningful and fun.  Since I wrote the calligraphy free-hand, each one was unique.

All the flowers were fondant too.  I made them a week or more ahead of time so they would have time to dry and harden.  I used a mold for the flowers below.  I bought various molds to try out different flowers and decided on the petunia for the show-stopper.  The bi-color flower was made by adding a small ball to the center of the flower before squeezing the mold together.  In another post, I’ll show you the mold and process.

In the decorating scheme of things, I added grey icing to the “lids” then brushed on silver lustre dust when the icing had set.  Next came flower arranging on a bed of mint green royal icing.

I mixed up a pretty beach glass green for the jar colors and added the chalkboard fondant plaques I had made previously.

I felt the cookies just needed a finishing touch of a different texture and color so I tied a few strands of raffia around the lid. I loved this look.  I was originally going to tied the cello bag with the raffia but since I added it to the cookie I decided to go with a softer and brighter look for the packaging.  This sheer organza ribbon with a satin border is one of my favorites for wedding cookies.

A Vineyard Wedding – Part 3

As the wedding dinner in the vineyard was transitioning into evening, Adirondack chairs painted specially to complement the colors of the wedding were set up around the large fire ring. Plum colored pillows added coziness when the sun fell as did a basket full of purple and blush hued pashminas for the ladies. Such a thoughtful touch. One last push on the swing. A perfect dinner. With perfect company. Magic. Enchantment. Good conversation. Music. Dancing. And what kind of a… [Read More]

A Vineyard Wedding ~ Part 2

out of towners wedding favors

The ceremony and garden party. Scott’s 5 o’clock shadow was a bride’s request. Happy wife. Happy life. I love this photo. Lela’s veil floated to embrace Scott’s face at the moment of the kiss to give them just a hint of privacy. Soon it was time for the sunset dinner in the vineyard. Guests were seated at one long elegant table. Our wine charms pointed us towards the tables we were to sit at. Mirrors with our names at our… [Read More]

A Vineyard Wedding in Sedona

vineyard wedding cookie favors

I had the honor of designing and creating decorated cookies for a beautiful vineyard wedding in Sedona this past weekend. My time in the kitchen was made even more special since it was my nephew’s wedding. I love making cookies for people I know (and love). I think of them the entire time from sketch to the tying of the ribbon. How lucky can a baker girl and auntie get? The destination wedding location was unique and lovely and not… [Read More]

Cookie Blockage

This is where I am today. This is where I’ve been all week. I’m second guessing all my design possibilities for a vineyard wedding. The save-the-date announcement was decorated with a wine bottle cork so I thought I would tie the cookies into the theme. The cookies will be attached to the front of the out-of-town baskets. No pressure to be front and center! The creative process has not exactly been flowing as smoothly as thinned royal icing. I started… [Read More]

Jennifer’s Wedding

It was a lovely day.The day before I had finished making 140 wedding cookies for my niece, but you might have already known that. On Saturday, as we were leaving for the ceremony, I received a call from the father of the bride. “Where are you?” Three little words at the beginning of a conversation that always makes your heart beat faster.Seems the florist came and left before the bakery dropped off the cake so there was no one to… [Read More]
