Mason Jar Decorated Cookies With Fondant Flowers

June was such a busy month. One that included travel, a memorable birthday get-away celebration and a vineyard wedding.

When you think of an elegant country wedding what comes to mind?  For me, it’s Mason jars overflowing with wild flowers!

What turned out very nice was that the table centerpieces were Mason jars filled with flowers too.

A very personalized touch I added was to paint on a “chalkboard tag” with the bride and groom’s new monogram.  Of course, the tag and paint were completely edible being fondant and white gel decorating color.  The bride is an elementary school teacher so I thought the rustic look of the chalkboard would be especially meaningful and fun.  Since I wrote the calligraphy free-hand, each one was unique.

All the flowers were fondant too.  I made them a week or more ahead of time so they would have time to dry and harden.  I used a mold for the flowers below.  I bought various molds to try out different flowers and decided on the petunia for the show-stopper.  The bi-color flower was made by adding a small ball to the center of the flower before squeezing the mold together.  In another post, I’ll show you the mold and process.

In the decorating scheme of things, I added grey icing to the “lids” then brushed on silver lustre dust when the icing had set.  Next came flower arranging on a bed of mint green royal icing.

I mixed up a pretty beach glass green for the jar colors and added the chalkboard fondant plaques I had made previously.

I felt the cookies just needed a finishing touch of a different texture and color so I tied a few strands of raffia around the lid. I loved this look.  I was originally going to tied the cello bag with the raffia but since I added it to the cookie I decided to go with a softer and brighter look for the packaging.  This sheer organza ribbon with a satin border is one of my favorites for wedding cookies.

Groovy 60’s Inspired Tie-Dyed Decorated Daisy Cupcakes

retro 60's cupcakes

Peace, love and Bobby Sherman. It was the golden era of bubblegum music, tie-dyed shirts and bell-bottomed pants. In the late 60’s and early 70’s colorful daisies and happy faces were on everything, at least in my world, from posters and bed spreads to flowery stationery and book covers. Somewhere in my stash of relics from my innocent youth there’s a “Have a happy day” button – the real deal, so groovy and far out, as I hope you’ll think… [Read More]

Wedding Dress Decorated Cookies For A Bridal Shower

wedding dress decorated cookies

Over the last few weeks I had the pleasure of designing and decorating cookie favors for a bridal shower in Newport Beach this weekend.  What made these cookies special for me was that they were invited to the party by Mary Ann of the blog Classic Casual Home.  We were finally able to meet, have lunch and become fast friends in person after reading and commenting on our respective blogs and emailing each other over the past few years!
