Serving Up Some Thanksgiving Music

Because I am an ardent fan of most music genres (I draw the line at heavy metal) I am starting to think about what tunes I will be serving for Thanksgiving. I’ve put together some samples for you to taste.

When guests arrive I like to have something upbeat and a sound they might be familiar with so I’m beginning with Vince Guaraldi. We all know Vince’s sound. To me, he is synonymous with autumn and Charlie Brown.
I am playing the ‘Vince sound’ on my sidebar today.

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
A special note ~
Listen to Track 3 on the sidebar.

It was the 60’s and they were my older brother’s albums. Never had a Beatles or a Rolling Stones album but he had every single one of the TJBs.
Every. Single. One!

I remember glazing upon this album cover image for what seemed like hours. I was fascinated with it. Was she naked underneath all that? Is this what grown women did? Can I be covered in whipped cream like this too? How fun! Will I ever have breasts like this?
It was 1965. I was 8 years old.

My friend Rita, dated Herb’s son for a short while. Said he was absolutely gorgeous but couldn’t play a stinkin’ note. Doesn’t sound like he needed to, Lovely Rita! Herb is a ‘nice Jewish boy’, as they say, from West LA and was in the USC Trojan Marching Band. I always thought he was Hispanic until Rita educated me this past year as we were driving past her old haunts on the West side. Who knew! Herb is a huge contributor to UCLA and Cal Arts. Of course, there is (was?) A&M Records. He owns Vibrato, a jazz supper club in Bel Air that is on my list of places I’d love to dine. He keeps going and going and going…. lucky for us! Love Herb!

After the dishes ~
Girls vs. Boys Trivial Pursuit or Beatles Rock Band?

The Beatles

I vote for Rock Band!
We be bad so I named our family group…

  3. LOVE Herb Alpert. Perfect LA music!

  4. That Tijuana Brass bit had me fooled too…

  5. Love all of your music picks! But I really love Herb Alpert!! It is so funny you talking about the album cover. My mom had all of his albums, and I thought the same exact thing as you. Was she naked?? That is so funny!
I’m heading down to Maryland tomorrow. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
    XOXO

  6. I love your musical choices – esp. Vince Guaraldi. Have a great weekend! xx

  7. I really wanted to go to Vibrato while we were out there but since no one else in my family appreciates jazz, I was outvoted. WAH!

Oh and by the way, my goodies arrived from the skin moisturizing lady. And, they are just wonderful!

  8. You never cease to amaze me, have since I first met you (when the boys were in preschool), and now all the more! PLEASE write a book so I can find everything I need without asking the middle schooler to help me (who loves to cook by the way!)

  9. Badd Assters come back tour Thanksgiving 2009.
