Mad Men?

Is it just me or is anyone else left lukewarm with Mad Men this season?I forgave the season premier as I allowed for the catch up of the summer. For instance, we already knew Don Draper’s (D.D.) illustrious background. It did nothing for the story line, in my opinion, to know how he was named ‘Dick’. The first episode ran the gamut from boring to almost pornographic but it still did not hold my attention. The story lines seem disjointed to me and further evidence was last night’s lack luster show. I want to know more about last season’s cliff hangers ~ Peter’s feelings knowing he has a child out there somewhere and how Joan Holloway could marry the man who raped her in her boss’ office.

What happened to Duck?
Did he fly south for the summer and is off the show?

Peggy Olsen doesn’t even know who she is and that scenario is frustrating to me. Pick a personality trait, Sybil, and go with it.
What was with that stare as D. D. passed by her office?

I like Robert Moorse’s character. No nonsense and few words as possible but his point is weighty. I find it intriguing and thought provoking when the characters thoughts are kept more to themselves and this season it seems everyone is asking for other’s opinions. Is it believable to think someone as high up as Roger Sterling would ask a lowly copywriter as to her opinion on something as painful and confusing as father/daughter relationships?

The best part of last night’s show was D. D. running his fingers over the blades of grass.
As an ardent fan I will of course hang in there but I hope the tempo picks up a bit.
Woman cannot live by grass fondling alone.

  1. I do agree it’s off to a slow start!…but the writers are so good, I anticipate some wild surprises!

  2. Not getting any American shows here I finished watching Season 1 & 2 this summer I was so looking forward to Season 3. Do all good things come to an end!!

  3. I think last night’s episode was just setting up storylines that will get fleshed out going forward. And I’m O.K. with that. I can’t wait to see where they go!

  4. Preppy in NE & Erin ~ You are so optimistic so I’ll be patient too.

Frau ~ When I missed an episode last season I just HAD to see I bought it from iTunes. My bad. I watched all the seasons of the Sopranos on DVD. I think that may be the way to go on a series.

  5. I agree. I had never watched Mad Men but it was hyped up so much that I decided to watch it on OnDemand & I loved it! I couldnt wait for the new season to start & when it did, it was sort of a let down.

Hopefully they’ll get back into the swing of things soon. Actually, I’ll probably still watch the show even if it goes downhill cause Jon Hamm is such a cutie 😉

  6. I’ve GOT to get the DVD of this show. My brother loves it.
