Thank You, My Sweet Blogging Buddies!

I wanted to check in to say thank you so much for your well wish comments for Mr. PM’s surgery.  I had good intentions to comment in return to each of your kind thoughts but to tell the truth, I didn’t have it in me this week to be at the computer.

To give you a quick update, the surgery wasn’t as successful as we had wished and expected.

I think one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was explain to my husband during his recovery in post-op, was what we all took for granted as being a fairly straight forward cartilage anchor repair was in fact irreparable.  When I walked into the room with the steady sound of beeping machines, the hopeful and slightly groggy face that greeted me suddenly turned quiet and expressionless upon hearing my words.  The quickening tone on the heart monitor was the only outward sign of his anxiety and disappointment.  There were other things done during surgery so we are hopeful this will in fact help the situation.

We’ll know in six weeks when he’s off the crutches. In the meantime, I’m a constant companion, water fetcher, ice pack changer, meal maker, trash taker outer, washer of all things usable and wearable, market runner, scooper of ice cream and cat box (although not together), and personal valet – the slipping on of socks being my specialty.  When I’m not tending I’m shifting, cleaning, folding, picking up, answering calls of phone and of nature.

My blog and camera are calling too.  So far they’ve reached a busy signal.  Next week I should be able to answer.

Have a wonderfully relaxing three-day weekend and thank you for your kind and thoughtful words of encouragement.

You are the best cheerleaders!

xoxo

  1. Oh no, I don’t know what’s going on I have to read back. Please know your husband is certainly in my prayes. Good luck to you – I wish we lived closer I would help you out! He is a very lucky man to have you 🙂

  2. Don;t know what happened to my comment! Wishing your hubby and you, Ms. modern day Florence Nightingale, that he has a speedy recovery and a happy ending. Hope the next 6 weeks will be smooth and uneventful for both of you. Sending you a hug!

  3. Thinking of you all.

  4. Sounds like you are in a definite WonderWoman position, and you are the gal to handle it. I wish hubby a speedy recovery! Don’t forget to take care of YOU too!

    Love and Hugs,
    Mrs. Kindergarten…Madam Spoiled

  5. Marilyn, I will have to read back, I was unaware of this. Stay strong and keep the faith. Mr.PM will be moving about on his own in no time. I will keep him in my prayers for a speedy recovering… blessings to you both, xo HHL

  6. I came over here to blogworld after being on the Sarcoma Alliance facebook page, where everyone is undergoing treatment of some kind, usually surgery, radiation and chemo, all back to back. So I may have a different perspective at the moment.
I am sorry for your Hubby’s needed surgery from that terrible accident. Hopefully whatever they did do will work. Where we live in Atlanta, everyone plays tennis so hard they are always having knee injuries. My Hubby has had several arthroscopic surgeries and even had his knee cap drilled to promote the re-growth of cartilage (that one actually worked). I know crutches are a pain, but tell him to be patient. I’m sure you are a wonderful and caring nurse.
And just remember… be thankful it’s not cancer.

  7. Oh, Marilyn, I’m sorry! Enter uncertainty. I am sure you are a great support, and you two love each other, but crutches are no fun at all, and not knowing the future even less. I hope things turn out better than expected, then, and that you all make the adjustments with only reasonable distress felt.

  8. Give the Mr. a big hug from us. Love you guys!!!

Oh, but time often takes care of things that doctors don’t; at least they don’t right away. Tell the Mr to heal well and he has you to look after him. Of course, you are busy and it is most stressful for you. Take care of your loved one and come back when you are ready. We will wait and we wish you love and all the best!

  10. Hi Shari – Thanks. You are as sweet as ever. 🙂

Thank you, Tina. I’m all for a happy ending.:)

    Thank you, Leigh. 🙂

Mrs. Kindergarten, how did you know when I scoop him some ice cream I scoop two for myself? 🙂

Celia, thank you so much. I am learning to have faith again. 🙂

Hi Sandra, we are very thankful it’s not much worse. It’s hard not knowing though if you’re going to be facing chronic pain and what kind of mobility you’ll have to adjust to. It was actually his hip that had to be re-contoured making the ball susceptible to breakage for the next 6 weeks. For the pain, the cartilage surrounding the hip joint was key and now with that being irreparable we have no idea what to expect. The fact this was caused by a drunk driver adds an unnecessary layer to the taco dip of life.

I hope you are doing well. 🙂

Hi Lisa. Thank you. You are always so wise and calming. We must be family one day. We must! 🙂

  11. Hey Sis, it’s hard to see the big guy down 🙁 and I am getting up way too early to make coffee for him and to get him breakfast! You know me. 🙂 I’ll pass along your hug but he’ll want more. Where are you when I need you?!? 😉

Hi Hopflower, you are so right and I’ll have to keep reminding myself of that but both of us were in such shock that this didn’t work. No one thought it was even a possibility. Thank you for being patient. Kippers 4 U for being so sweet. 🙂

  12. I hope it’s not nearly as bad as it sounds. Good thing he has you to take care of him!

  13. Bless you both. I hope Mr. PM has the best possible outcome.

  14. Hey there – hope your hunny is getting better. I tagged you in a post on my blog – you probably don’t have time to play along but if you do, I would love to read it 🙂 Praying for you.

  15. oh, Marilyn – I’m so so soooo sorry to hear this news. Praying for a best-possible scenario, one without chronic pain!

  16. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Hi H’flower – So nice of you for checking back in. End of a long week but it is ending well. Thanks again. 🙂

  19. I’m just now catching up after a busy week. I’m so sorry to hear that the surgery didn’t provide the desired effect. You are a wonderful support to your husband and I’m sure he appreciates all that you’re doing for him … so much so, that he asked me to tell you that you should deserve a little something special ~ pick out whatever you’d like 🙂
